Hayfever Injection Birmingham

Hayfever injection is a long-acting corticosteroid. It works by suppressing the immune system's exaggerated response to pollen, reducing inflammation in the nasal passages and airways, and decreasing mucus production. By addressing inflammation systemically, it can relieve multiple symptoms at once — including sneezing, itchy eyes, blocked nose and sinus headaches.

Many patients notice an improvement within 48 hours of their hayfever injection. The full benefit typically takes 7–10 days to develop. If symptoms persist after 10 days, your GP can review whether additional treatment is needed.

Steroid injections for hayfever are not routinely offered on the NHS because hayfever is not considered life-threatening, steroids carry potential risks, and alternative treatments (tablets and sprays) are usually recommended first. Private clinics such as ours may offer injections once it has been assessed that standard treatments have failed and the patient is clinically suitable.

Same-day consultations are often available during pollen season, subject to GP availability. We recommend booking early during peak months (April to July) to secure your preferred appointment time.

If the injection is not appropriate for you, your GP may recommend prescription-strength antihistamines, steroid nasal sprays, eye drops, combination therapy, or personalised allergy management advice. Your treatment plan will always be tailored to your individual needs and medical history.

The hayfever injection treatment is £75. A prescription charge of £25 applies if required. There are no hidden fees.
