Cognitive and Memory Tests

Cognitive and Memory Tests

Memory and cognitive tests are a cornerstone of our memory assessment service. Conducted by highly skilled professionals, these tests evaluate aspects such as recall, recognition, attention, and executive functioning.

Types of Cognitive Tests Conducted

  • Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination (ACE)—a recognised and validated tool for identifying memory and cognitive problems.
  • Standard memory recall tests like verbal and visual recall evaluations.
  • Attention-focused tests to measure concentration and response speed.

Importance of Early Detection
Early detection of memory-related conditions provides an opportunity for timely medical interventions and can delay disease progression. For example, identifying dementia early allows patients to access therapies, medications, and support to optimise their daily functioning and maintain independence for as long as possible.

Our Memory Dementia Assessment Process

1. Physical Assessment

We begin by ruling out physical causes of memory issues through blood tests, urine analysis, and ECGs at our West Midlands clinics. This ensures a thorough foundation for your assessment.

2. Cognitive Assessment

Our specialists use the Addenbrookes tool to evaluate recall, recognition, awareness, and performance—available in person or online for your convenience.

3. Imaging

We provide referral letters for CT or MRI scans, offering detailed brain imaging to support accurate diagnosis. Imaging costs are paid directly to the radiology centre.

4. Specialist Review and Diagnosis

Psychologists specialising in dementia deliver a concluding consultation, in person or virtually, ensuring expert and thorough evaluation.

5. Expert Report

A detailed report is shared with your GP, consolidating results and outlining care needs for continuity of treatment.
*The cost of imaging (MRI/CT scan) is not included in our fees and must be paid directly to the radiology centre.
