ADHD Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of ADHD for adults

ADHD can have a significant impact on various aspects of your life, affecting your ability to focus, concentrate, and manage tasks. If you or your child are experiencing symptoms such as lack of attention to detail, poor organisational skills, difficulty completing tasks, or impulsive behaviours, it may be time to consider an ADHD assessment. Our expert team is here to provide you with a clear diagnosis and the support you need to navigate the challenges of ADHD.
ADHD Signs

Common signs of ADHD include:

Impulsiveness and disorganisation
Challenges in prioritising and focusing
Poor time management
Difficulty with multitasking
Excessive restlessness
Low tolerance for frustration
Frequent mood swings
A short temper
Our Process

Step 1: Pre-Assessment Questionnaire

Private Medical Clinic offers a triage assessment to determine whether a full diagnostic assessment of ADHD is warranted.

The triage assessment involves completion of screening questionnaires.

It’s best to have someone who has known you well for a long time—like a parent, sibling, close friend, partner, or employer—help you with the questions. Their perspective is important since some questions will address your early development and school history.

Step 2: Screening Appointment/Telephone Call

Next is a follow-up video call with a clinical psychiatrist. This will provide an opportunity for discussion around the reason for referral and your current strengths and needs.

Together, you will also review the outcome of the screening questionnaires and by the end of the call, a decision can be made about whether a full ADHD assessment is required.
Our Process

Step 3: Full Diagnostic Assessment & QbTest

Following the screening appointment, our full diagnostic assessment uses a combination of standardised assessment measures and clinical interviews to gather information relevant to your assessment.

The full assessment can be performed via video call or in person at our London clinic.

Where indicated, the clinical psychologist may choose to use the Qb check. The result of this computer test provides objective data for the clinician to consider alongside other information gathered.

Step 4: Feedback & Written Report

The clinical psychologist leading your assessment will then review all of the information that has been gathered to confirm the outcome of the assessment, which they will share with your during a follow-up feedback appointment. A comprehensive diagnostic report, including recommendations, will follow.

We don’t just stop at diagnosing ADHD; we also aim to understand the functional impact of the condition and screen for any co-occurring disorders that may be present. This holistic approach allows us to provide tailored treatment plans that address the full spectrum of your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a private ADHD assessment, and how does it work?

A private ADHD assessment is a comprehensive evaluation conducted by experienced ADHD specialists to determine if an individual meets the diagnostic criteria for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The process typically involves:

  • Initial Consultation: A detailed discussion about your or your child’s symptoms, medical history, and behavioural patterns.
  • ADHD Screening Test: A preliminary evaluation to identify symptoms indicative of ADHD.
  • In-Depth Assessment: Completion of ADHD-specific questionnaires, clinical interviews, and potential feedback from family, teachers, or colleagues.
  • Final Diagnosis: An ADHD consultant analyses the results to confirm or rule out ADHD, providing a clear diagnosis.

Our private ADHD clinic ensures a streamlined, supportive, and confidential assessment process.

What does an adult and children ADHD assessment involve?

For Adults:

  • Detailed questionnaires and interviews focusing on past and present symptoms.
  • A review of personal, educational, and occupational history to identify patterns associated with ADHD.
  • Cognitive and behavioural evaluations conducted by an ADHD consultant.
  • Discussion of co-existing conditions, such as anxiety or depression, which are common in adults with ADHD.

For Children:

  • Parent and teacher input via structured questionnaires.
  • Observations and developmental history reviews.
  • Play-based or situational assessments (for younger children).
  • Evaluation of academic records and behavioural challenges.
  • Consultation with an ADHD specialist to confirm the diagnosis.

Both assessments aim to provide a personalised, age-appropriate evaluation.

What happens after the ADHD assessment?

After the assessment, the following steps are taken:

  • Diagnosis Report: You will receive a detailed diagnosis report outlining the findings.
  • Treatment Recommendations: Based on the results, your ADHD specialist may recommend treatment options such as behavioural therapy, lifestyle adjustments, or medication.
  • Follow-Up Support: Ongoing ADHD services, including therapy, coaching, or regular check-ins, are provided to help manage symptoms effectively.
  • Referrals: If additional services are needed, such as educational support or workplace accommodations, the clinic can guide you.

What types of ADHD services do you offer?

Our clinic provides a wide range of ADHD services, including:

  • ADHD Screening: Initial evaluation to identify potential ADHD symptoms.
  • Comprehensive ADHD Assessment: In-depth testing for children and adults.
  • Private ADHD Diagnosis: Accurate and confidential diagnosis by ADHD consultants.
  • Treatment Planning: Tailored strategies, including therapy and medication recommendations.
  • Ongoing Support: Follow-up appointments and resources for managing ADHD effectively.
  • ADHD Testing for Adults and Children: Age-appropriate testing to cater to all needs.

Who can benefit from an ADHD screening test?

An ADHD screening test is beneficial for:
  • Children showing signs of inattentiveness, hyperactivity, or impulsiveness that affect their learning or behaviour.
  • Adults who struggle with focus, organisation, or emotional regulation, especially if these challenges impact their work, relationships, or daily life.
  • Parents are concerned about their child’s developmental milestones or academic performance.
  • Individuals seeking clarity about potential ADHD symptoms before committing to a full diagnosis assessment.
Screening is a helpful first step to identify whether further ADHD evaluation is needed.

How long does an ADHD assessment take?

The duration of an ADHD assessment varies based on the individual’s needs:
  • Screening Test: Typically 30–60 minutes.
  • Comprehensive Assessment: Several hours or multiple sessions over a few days, including detailed consultations, testing, and diagnostic review.
At our clinic, we strive to make the process as efficient as possible while ensuring thoroughness and accuracy.

What happens during an ADHD screening test?

An ADHD screening test serves as a preliminary evaluation. It involves:
  • A short questionnaire to identify key symptoms.
  • Discussion with an ADHD expert about observed challenges and behavioural concerns.
  • Review of any supporting information, such as school reports (for children) or workplace feedback (for adults).
The screening test determines whether a full ADHD assessment is necessary.
