Why London Patients Choose a Home Visit

A home visit removes theneed to navigate the Tube, find parking, or sit in a waiting room while feelingunwell. Our patients most commonly book when they:

Feel too unwell to travel across London safely.
Are recovering after surgery or a procedure.
Are caring for a young child or elderly relative with limited mobility.
Are staying in a London hotel or serviced apartment.
Need a doctor at their workplace in the City, Canary Wharf or Westminster.
Prefer the privacy and calm of being seen at home.

Where clinically appropriate, your doctor can assess symptoms, issue a prescription and arrange blood tests, or refer you to a private specialist, all in one visit.

What Happens During Your Home Visit?

1. Book
Call 0208 0500379 or book online. Give your location and a brief description of your concern. We'll confirm availability and send an estimated arrival window.

2. Your doctor arrives
Your GMC-registered GP arrives with equipment for a comprehensive consultation and physical examination. They'll review your symptoms and medical history, examine you where needed, and explain their findings in plain language. No time limit is imposed — you have the appointment for as long as it takes.

3. Your care plan
Before leaving, your GP will outline next steps. This may include:

  • A private prescription (valid at any UK pharmacy).
  • Blood tests —  arranged at our Marylebone clinic or an external lab, with results in 24–48 hours.
  • A private specialist referral, typically arranged within days.
  • A fit note or medical certificate where clinically appropriate.
  • Advice on self-care and any follow-up needed.

Before your doctor arrives

It helps to have a list of current medications, any known allergies, and relevant medical letters to hand. A quiet, reasonably lit space makes the examination easier.

Is a Home Visit Right for You?

A home visit is well-suited if you:

Feel too unwell or in too much pain to travel.
Are recovering after surgery or illness.
Have limited mobility or a disability.
Are arranging care for an elderly parent or care home resident.
Are visiting London and need medical care at your hotel.
Prefer to be seen at your workplace rather than leaving the office.

A clinic appointment may be better if you:

Need imaging such as X-ray or ultrasound.
Are attending for a planned health screening package.
Require a procedure only available in a clinical setting.
Want to combine your GP consultation with on-site blood tests in one visit.

Unsure which is right? Call 0208 050 0379 — our team will help you choose.

What our London patients say

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly can I book a same-day home visit in London?

Contact us before midday and we will do our best to arrange a same-day visit. We'll confirm availability and provide an arrival window when your booking is confirmed.

Can a private GP visit my London hotel?

Yes. We regularly see patients at hotels, serviced apartments and short-term accommodation across Central London, including properties in Mayfair, Kensington, Westminster, the West End and Marylebone. If you are visiting from overseas, your doctor can also advise on any follow-up care and provide documentation for a travel insurance claim. There is no extra process — call with your hotel name and room number and our team will handle the booking.

Can you arrange a home visit for an elderly relative in a London care home?

Yes. We visit residents in residential care homes and nursing homes across London. Your GP conducts a full consultation and physical examination in the resident's own room. With the patient's consent — or with a next of kin or power of attorney present where appropriate — we can share a summary of the consultation with their NHS GP and care home team to support continuity of care. You can arrange and attend the visit on behalf of your relative.

What if I live outside Central London?

We can often accommodate visits outside our standard coverage area. Call 0208 050 0379 and we will advise on availability for your location.

Can I get a home visit from my GP in London?

NHS GPs in London can arrange home visits, but they are typically reserved for housebound patients and are increasingly difficult to access quickly. If you need a doctor to come to you in London without a lengthy wait, a private GP home visit is the most reliable option. Private Medical Clinic offers same-day home visits with GMC-registered GPs across Central and Greater London. Simply call 0208 050 0379 — no referral or prior registration is needed.

How much does a private GP home visit cost in London?

Private GP home visits in London with Private Medical Clinic start from £295. This covers a full consultation of up to 45 minutes — there is no membership requirement, no registration fee, and no referral needed. A private prescription, if issued, is £25. Medical certificates, fit notes and specialist referral letters are £100 each. Blood test laboratory fees are charged separately at cost, and your GP will always discuss these with you before any samples are taken. A travel surcharge may apply for addresses outside our standard Central and Greater London coverage area, and this is always confirmed before your booking is finalised.

Can I see a private GP in London if I am not registered anywhere?

Yes. You do not need to be registered with a GP surgery — NHS or private — to book a home visit with Private Medical Clinic. New patients are welcome, and there is no registration process to complete beforehand. Simply call 0208 050 0379 with your address and a brief description of your concern. Our team will confirm availability and arrange a visit.

How quickly can a private GP come to my address in London?

For same-day visits, please contact us before midday and we will aim to arrange a doctor within a few hours, subject to availability and your location. We will keep you updated on timing and provide an arrival window. If you call after midday, we will advise on the earliest available slot — next-morning appointments are typically available. For non-urgent visits, you can book ahead for any day that suits you.

Will using a private GP in London affect my NHS registration?

Not at all. Seeing a private GP has no effect on your NHS registration whatsoever. You remain fully registered with your NHS GP and all your NHS entitlements continue unchanged. We actively encourage patients to keep their NHS GP for ongoing and long-term care. With your consent, we can share a summary of your consultation with your NHS GP — but this is entirely your decision and only ever happens with your written permission.

What should I do if I am having a medical emergency in London?

Call 999 immediately. A private GP home visit is not an emergency service. For a suspected heart attack, stroke, severe breathing difficulty, uncontrolled bleeding or loss of consciousness, do not wait for a GP — call 999 or go to your nearest A&E. Our doctors carry GP-level clinical equipment and are not equipped for paramedic or resuscitation care. If you are unsure whether your situation is urgent but not an emergency, please do call us on 0208 050 0379 and we will advise you on the most appropriate course of action.

Which areas of London doyou cover for home visits?

We cover much of Central and Greater London. Areas we visit regularly include Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Mayfair, Belgravia, Marylebone, Knightsbridge, Camden, Islington, Fulham, Hampstead, Notting Hill, Paddington, Canary Wharf, the City of London, Battersea, Clapham, Putney, Greenwich, Richmond, Wimbledon, Chiswick and Ealing. If your address is not listed, please call us — we cover much of Greater London subject to availability. A travel surcharge may apply for addresses further from Central London and will always be confirmed before you commit.

Can a private GP visit my office in the City of London or Canary Wharf?

Yes. Our GPs regularly visit offices and workplaces across Central London, including the City of London, Canary Wharf, Westminster and Mayfair. We arrange these visits discreetly, so there is no visible disruption to your working environment. This is particularly useful when you need to be seen urgently but cannot leave the office. Simply call with your workplace address and a brief description of your concern.

Will seeing aprivate GP affect my NHS registration?

No. You can use private and NHS GP services at the same time. With your permission, we can send a consultation summary to your NHS GP.

Can I get a prescription during a home visit?

Yes, where clinically appropriate. Prescriptions are issued electronically via SignatureRx and are valid at any pharmacy in the UK.

Can I call a doctor to come to my house in London?

Yes. Private Medical Clinic arranges same-day home visits with GMC-registered GPs across London. When you call us on 0208 050 0379, our team will confirm availability for your specific address, give you an estimated arrival window and let you know if a travel surcharge applies. We visit homes, hotels, serviced apartments, care homes and offices across Central and Greater London. Same-day visits are available when you call before midday, subject to doctor availability.

How do I see a doctor in London as a tourist or overseas visitor?

You do not need to be registered with an NHS GP or have any UK healthcare documentation to see a private GP in London. Private Medical Clinic welcomes overseas visitors and can arrange a same-day home visit at your hotel, serviced apartment or Airbnb across Central London. Call us on 0208 050 0379 with your address and a brief description of your concern. If you need documentation for a travel insurance claim following your consultation, we can provide this. Should your condition require hospital admission, your GP can arrange a referral to a London private hospital directly.

How do I book a same-day private GP home visit in London?

Call us on 0208 050 0379. Our team will confirm same-day availability for your address, give you an estimated arrival window and advise on any travel surcharge before you commit. Please call as early in the day as possible for a same-day visit — we aim to accommodate requests received before midday. No referral, registration or membership is required.

Can I get a blood test, prescription or sick note during a home visit in London?

Yes — all three can be arranged in a single home visit where clinically appropriate. If blood tests are needed, your GP takes samples on-site and sends them to our laboratory partners, with results typically back within 24 to 48 hours. Private prescriptions can be issued during the visit and sent electronically to your chosen pharmacy, at a fee of £25. If a medical certificate or fit note is required, your GP can issue one where it is clinically appropriate, at a fee of £100. All blood test laboratory fees are agreed with you before any samples are taken.

Are your doctors GMC-registered and is the clinic CQC-regulated?

Yes to both. Every doctor who conducts home visits for Private Medical Clinic is fully registered with the General Medical Council and has experience in both NHS and private practice. You can verify any of our doctors at gmc-uk.org. Our Medical Director, Dr Simon Khela, holds GMC number 7419585.
