What is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, a dual GIP/GLP‑1 receptor agonist. After meals, these incretin hormones signal fullness and help regulate blood sugar. By activating these pathways, tirzepatide can:
  • Slow gastric emptying (you feel fuller for longer)
  • Reduce appetite and food intake
  • Improve post‑meal glucose control by enhancing insulin secretion
Clinical trials have shown meaningful, progressive weight loss when titrated to a maintenance dose and combined with lifestyle changes. Your doctor will determine a safe starting dose and titration plan.

Who is Eligible?

You may be considered if you:
  • Are 18–85 years old, and
  • Have BMI ≥30 kg/m² (obese), or BMI 27–29.9 kg/m² with a weight‑related condition (e.g. high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre‑diabetes, cardiovascular risk, obstructive sleep apnoea).
Not suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, allergic to any ingredients, or where interactions/medical history make use unsafe. A clinician will review your history, medications (incl. sulfonylureas/insulin), and goals before prescribing.

How to Use the Mounjaro Injectable Pen

  • Inject once weekly on the same day each week (abdomen, thigh, or upper arm).
  • Rotate sites; avoid the navel by 5 cm when using the abdomen.
  • Follow the leaflet to prime and dial the dose correctly before injecting.
  • After injecting, check the dose window has returned to 0 and dispose of the needle in a sharps bin.
Missed a dose? If <96 hours (4 days) since your scheduled dose, inject when remembered and continue weekly from that new day. If >96 hours, skip and take the next scheduled dose. If you miss several doses, contact us for advice.

How the Service Works

1. Start your 3–5 minute assessment

Secure online questionnaire covering your health, medicines and goals. Upload recent weight/BMI if available.

Once approved, we dispense with temperature‑controlled, discreet delivery to your door or arrange clinic collection. Pens include needles; a sharps bin is provided with disposal guidance.

4. Begin & titrate safely
Weekly reminders, clear pen instructions, and 4‑weekly reviews to consider dose increases (2.5 → 5 → 7.5 → … → up to 15 mg) based on results and tolerability.
5. Follow‑ups for sustainable results
Proactive check‑ins at approximately weeks 4, 8, 12 and 24, weight/waist trackers, nutrition templates, and secure GP messaging if you need advice between reviews.

Expected Results

Mounjaro is intended for long‑term weight management. Your clinician will monitor for:
  • Weight change (aiming for ≥5% by ~6 months on an effective maintenance dose)
  • Waist circumference, glycaemic markers (if relevant), blood pressure
  • Side‑effect profile and adherence
Results vary. Best outcomes occur when medication is paired with a structured nutrition and movement plan, adequate protein/fibre intake, hydration, sleep and behaviour change strategies.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is tirzepatide and how does it work?

Tirzepatide is a dual incretin receptor agonist that targets GLP‑1 and GIP receptors. Activating these pathways can reduce appetite, slow stomach emptying, and improve post‑meal insulin secretion and glucose control. The combined effect supports a sustained calorie deficit and weight loss when paired with healthy lifestyle changes.

How is it different from GLP‑1 only medicines?

Unlike semaglutide (GLP‑1 only), tirzepatide also acts on the GIP receptor. Some people respond better to one mechanism than the other; we will tailor to your response and tolerability.

Who should not use tirzepatide?

  • Under 18 years
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Allergy to tirzepatide or excipients
  • Where your medical history or current medicines make use unsafe (your GP will advise)

What if I have type 2 diabetes?

Tirzepatide can improve glycaemic control. If used with insulin or sulfonylureas, we will plan for glucose monitoring and may adjust doses to reduce hypoglycaemia risk.

Do I need baseline tests?

Not always required but often useful. Your GP may recommend: HbA1c, lipids, renal/liver function, TSH (if indicated), and blood pressure/waist measurements to personalise care and monitor progress.

Where and how do I inject?

Subcutaneously into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate sites weekly; if injecting the abdomen, stay ≥5 cm from the navel. Clean the skin and let it dry. Insert the needle as instructed, press the dose knob, count slowly to 5, confirm the window returns to 0, then remove the needle and dispose of it in the sharps bin.

Do I need to prime the pen?

Yes—follow the leaflet to prime on first use or when changing needles. If no medicine appears during priming, repeat per leaflet instructions (up to the stated limit) or contact us.

Is a bump, mild redness, or slight leakage normal?

These are common local reactions that usually improve. Rotate sites and avoid injecting through clothing. If swelling, rash or pain is significant or persistent, contact us.

How effective is it?

Individual results vary. In long‑duration clinical studies using a stepwise titration up to higher maintenance doses, participants achieved clinically meaningful weight loss, with top‑dose groups reporting up to ~22.5% average reduction in body weight over ~72 weeks when combined with lifestyle measures. Your outcome depends on adherence, dose, diet quality, activity, sleep and other health factors.

Who is eligible?

Adults 18–85 with BMI ≥30 kg/m², or BMI 27–29.9 kg/m² plus a weight‑related condition (e.g., hypertension, dyslipidaemia, pre‑diabetes, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular risk). Eligibility is always confirmed by a GP after reviewing your medical history, medicines and goals.

Can I stay at a lower dose?

Yes. If you are losing weight and tolerating a lower dose, you may continue at that dose; reaching 15 mg is not mandatory.

When will you increase my dose?

We review at ~4‑week intervals. We escalate only if benefits outweigh risks (e.g., appetite control remains insufficient and side‑effects are manageable). If side‑effects persist, we may extend the interval before increasing or reduce back to the prior well‑tolerated dose.

If I stop for several weeks, do I restart from 2.5 mg?

Often you will re‑start at a lower dose and re‑titrate to tolerance; the exact plan depends on how long you paused and your side‑effect history. We will advise.

What are the prescription alternatives?

  • Semaglutide weekly injections (e.g., Wegovy; GLP‑1).
  • Liraglutide daily injections (GLP‑1).
  • Orlistat capsules (fat‑absorption inhibitor).
  • Naltrexone/bupropion (Mysimba) (appetite/craving modulation).
Suitability depends on your history, preferences and response.

Can I drink alcohol while on tirzepatide?

Alcohol doesn’t directly interact, but it can worsen nausea/heartburn, add calories and impair weight loss. If you drink, keep it light and avoid on dose‑increase weeks.

Can I travel with pens?

Yes. Use a cool bag/ice pack, carry a doctor’s letter and the leaflet, and keep pens in hand luggage. Avoid freezing/overheating.
