What is Wegovy?

Wegovy contains semaglutide, a GLP‑1 receptor agonist. After meals, GLP‑1 signals satiety and modulates blood sugar. By activating this pathway, semaglutide can:

Who is Eligible?

You may be considered if you:

Are 18–85 years old, and
Have BMI ≥30 kg/m² (obese), or BMI 27–29.9 kg/m² with a weight‑related condition (e.g., high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre‑diabetes, cardiovascular risk, obstructive sleep apnoea).

Not suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, allergic to any ingredients, or where your history/medicines make use unsafe. Your GP will review your current medicines (including diabetes treatments) and medical background.

How to Use the Wegovy Injectable Pen

Inject once weekly (abdomen, thigh, or upper arm). Rotate sites and avoid the navel by 5 cm when using the abdomen.
Follow the leaflet to attach a new needle, prime if required, dial the dose, and confirm the dose window after injection.
Dispose of needles in a sharps bin.

Missed a dose? Follow the leaflet. In general, take it when remembered if there are still several days before the next scheduled dose; otherwise skip and resume as planned. Do not double dose. Contact us if you miss multiple doses.

Approved prescriptions are dispensed with temperature‑controlled, discreet delivery to your address or arranged for clinic collection.

4. Begin & titrate safely

Weekly dosing with clear pen instructions and 4‑weekly reviews to consider dose increases.

5. Follow‑ups for sustainable results

Proactive check‑ins at approximately weeks 4, 8, 12 and 24, weight/waist trackers, nutrition templates, and secure GP messaging if you need advice between reviews.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Wegovy approved for weight loss?

Yes. Semaglutide is licensed for weight management in adults with specific BMI criteria. Prescribing is subject to an individual GP assessment.

How long do I need to stay on Wegovy?

It’s intended for long‑term management. Your GP will review at regular intervals. Some patients remain on a maintenance dose to sustain results.

Can I drink alcohol?

There’s no direct interaction, but alcohol can worsen GI side‑effects and add calories. Minimise intake, especially during dose escalations.

What can I eat to reduce nausea?

Smaller, slower meals; bland options (e.g., porridge, eggs, yogurt, soups), ginger/peppermint; avoid very fatty/fried/spicy foods; sip fluids between meals.

Can I switch from tirzepatide to semaglutide (or vice‑versa)?

Yes, if clinically appropriate. A doctor‑guided interval is required; we’ll advise when to start and at what dose.

How long will it take to notice changes?

Appetite changes can appear within weeks; meaningful weight changes accumulate over months as doses are optimised and lifestyle routines embed.

What if I’m not losing weight?

We’ll review dose, adherence and lifestyle inputs (protein intake, activity, sleep), and consider medical contributors. We may adjust the plan or explore alternatives.

I have type 2 diabetes — can I use Wegovy?

Sometimes, yes. We’ll tailor care with your existing regimen. If you use insulin/sulfonylureas we may adjust your plan to avoid low blood sugar.
